Have you been in a situation where you want to take a leap in your life but you don’t where to start? You want to make your life intentional but don’t know your purpose in life.
I stumbled upon an interesting comment and read how a guy wanted to know how to discover his purpose.
He had resigned from his high paying job because he wanted to enjoy freedom and experience something bigger in his life.
Unfortunately, he was not getting this experience from his current job.
The experience of finding your purpose has been on for ages. Google this topic and you will see ebooks, tips, and articles, created to address this issue.
I have even attended seminars and listened to speakers that reveal the magic formula of how to discover one’s purpose.
Yet, people still don’t know what they were born to do. Some people who feel that they have discovered their purpose later became disappointed and had to go back to the drawing board.
So I decided to share my thoughts on this issue. Now some of the things I will be saying, might not click with you; please do make your comments.
The Concept of Finding Your Purpose is Misleading
You have been schooled that each man was born to do a certain thing or that if you are so passionate about your vocation, then that’s your purpose.
The problem with this concept is that it limits the potential of humans. It’s like saying that only mothers are designed to take care of kids and you know that it ain’t accurate.
This school of thought puts one in an uneasy mode when it comes to making a decision in one’s career as the focus comes to making a perfect choice.
In reality, there are a lot of activities that can become your vocation or calling.
However, Society has come to embrace the concept of a perfect career or one big goal? I don’t have the whole story of the reason but one thing I can point out is that there is an association between purpose and success.
In a way, it seems logical. Whatever your purpose is, will become your passion and lead you to success. This is the reason why you have changed careers in your life.
Finding Your Purpose is your Choice
There is this story of an old man who was so wise that people would come from surrounding villages just to listen to his wisdom.
A young boy decided to play a trick on this man to test his wisdom.
He captured a butterfly and took it to the old man. The old man on seeing the boy asks, “little boy, what troubles you”? The boy replied, “I want you to tell me if the butterfly in my hand is dead or alive”.
The boy had devised a plot that If the old man replied that the butterfly was alive, he would crush the butterfly in his hands so that when he opened his hands the butterfly would be dead; if the old man replied however that the butterfly was dead, the boy would open his hands and let the butterfly fly away free.
No matter what the old man said, the student would prove him wrong. The old man looked at the boy and replied ”Son, whether the butterfly is dead or alive, it depends on you. It’s in your hands!”
So here is the thing; read the message below and know that you hold in your hands the future of your life.
Your Purpose is An Expression Or An Interest.
it is easy to draw a conclusion that Legends who have made a significant impact in the world, easily found their calling, but if you take a closer look, you will discover that these legends were driven by their interest; they wanted to solve problems.
Take Leonardo da Vinci for instance, he was a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer or Nikola Tesla who was an inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, physicist, and futurist.
These men did not limit themselves to a perfect career but they wanted to be a blessing to humanity. They exploited their gifts in every area that their mind could reach and grasp.
If you have one or more interests or have something in you begging to be expressed, that is your calling.
Since you don’t have the same interests as others, there are some problems that can be resolved by you. Don’t limit yourself to one ability, exploit all your talents.
